Case Two: Dance of the Night Charm
By the time the ambulance arrived, Wei Tai had already stopped breathing.
The white sheet covering the cold body was like an ill-omened grave mound, making people avoid it.
The gentlemen had lost their earlier composure, frequently adjusting their masks, treating them as their only fig leaf, afraid of revealing any personal characteristics. Some glanced at their watches, impatiently straightening their bow ties, while others complained that a perfectly good evening had been ruined.
Unlike the guests eager to leave, the Night Charms were yawning, playing with their nails, indifferent to the situation.
No one cared why Wei Tai had fallen on this night.
“When are we going to be allowed to leave?” Someone else asked the same question.
The black suits were dutifully blocking the officers He Yixun had brought outside the winery. Both sides were armed, creating a standoff. The police weren’t rushing to break through, and the black suits didn’t dare act rashly. The result was a barrier isolating the winery from the outside world—no one could get in, no one could get out.
This situation was advantageous for He Yixun.
He was currently short-handed and didn’t dare order arrests recklessly. If a real confrontation broke out, someone might escape in the chaos.
But the backup he called was already on its way. For now, he just needed to stall the Progressive Society members, prevent them from leaving. Once backup arrived and the black suits were no longer a threat, he could easily round up everyone at the party.
—It had to be said, Wei Tai’s death was quite timely. Otherwise, He Yixun wouldn’t have had a pretext to make arrests.
These powerful old men were too overconfident, never anticipating a situation like this. They were worse than small-time gambling dens, which at least knew to keep a back door.
“A homicide has occurred here. Everyone present is a suspect,” said He Yixun, blocking the vestibule, occasionally glancing at the time.
Hearing they were murder suspects, the well-dressed old men became agitated, forgetting their dignity and cursing vehemently.
“Are you insane? Trying to arrest us? Know your place!”
“What’s wrong with Lin Mei? Can’t she control the little bastard she gave birth to? Does she even want to be chairman?”
“I advise you to think clearly about the consequences, kid. Don’t joke about your own future!”
It should be soon, He Yixun calculated.
Someone started yelling at the manager, ordering her to tell security to open fire on the police. However, He Yixun was right next to the manager, watching her coldly, his service pistol practically pointing at her head, daring her to give the order.
Unlike the masked guests, the manager was using her own face. How could she dare give such an order in front of He Yixun? In the end, the guests might escape, but she would be the first one jailed.
The mouthpiece between the guests and security didn’t dare make a sound, so the black suits outside naturally wouldn’t fire first.
The stalemate continued.
These wolves in sheep’s clothing were already trapped, just waiting for police backup to arrive.
However—
In an inconspicuous corner, someone stood up from a sofa, slowly moved through the crowd, walked up to He Yixun, and removed the mask from his face. The bright lights fell on the familiar face, the downturned corners of his mouth seemed more weary than usual.
“That’s enough.” Police Chief Shao Hui took over the commander’s role as naturally as if he had just arrived at the scene, not as a party guest. “None of the guests here are suspects. Take away the escorts and the servers.”
The Night Charms gasped in surprise, caught off guard by the sudden turn of events.
He Yixun already knew from Xu Pei that Shao Hui was here. He had expected him to hide his identity until they reached the station, never imagining he would proactively step forward to sacrifice himself and protect the others.
“You say they’re not suspects, so they’re not?” A bad feeling growing in his heart, He Yixun still argued on principle. “Anyone could have approached Wei Tai. Whether they are suspects or not will be known after investigation.”
Shao Hui retrieved his phone from the manager. With the police chief backing her, she was no longer timid. He made a few calls, dispersing most of the backup He Yixun had called for. Then he walked to the arched gate and said to the officers on standby, “Take the suspects away.”
The officers looked at each other, unsure who the chief meant by “suspects,” and even more confused about why the chief had suddenly appeared.
But watching the masked guests file out one after another, no one dared to take the initiative to stop them.
One luxury car after another with fake license plates hurriedly left the winery. Only leaves stirred up by the tires remained at the main gate, slowly spinning. In the distance, a string of red taillights moved further away on the mountain road, eventually disappearing into the deep night.
He Yixun’s face was darker than the night. “I will report this to higher authorities.”
If Shao Hui held absolute power in the city police department, there were still the state and federal governments.
“No need for you to report it,” said Shao Hui, also getting into the car sent for him. “I will submit myself for investigation.”
Watching the last car drive away from the winery, Chen Zhen said with a complex expression, “It can’t be what I’m thinking, right? The boss couldn’t be that kind of person.”
Xu Pei, draped in He Yixun’s suit jacket, shattered his illusion. “It’s exactly what you’re thinking.”
Zhu Mingfei indignantly questioned He Yixun, “You just let them all go like that?”
The furrow between He Yixun’s brows hadn’t relaxed. “What else could I do?”
Leaving aside the fact that without backup it was impossible to arrest all those people, even if backup had arrived, they would only have followed Shao Hui’s orders.
“Fei-jie, don’t blame Officer He,” Tang Tang said, rubbing her exposed arms in the cold wind. “Who could have guessed the Chief would be so… self-sacrificing?”
“Right? An old beast playing the saint,” Xiao Xi spat in disgust and asked, “I still managed to get some footage. Should we expose it?”
It was only the Director of Education, after all.
“Let’s think it over carefully,” Zhu Mingfei mused.
The winery wasn’t isolated from the world like the Lucky Number had been. For a homicide case, modern investigative techniques could be used.
The medical examiner performed a preliminary check of the body at the scene but couldn’t determine the cause of death and had to take the body back for an autopsy. After the scene investigation and giving statements back at the station, it was already late at night by the time Xu Pei and He Yixun returned home.
Xu Pei had been looking at his phone the whole way back. Only after entering the entryway did he put it down, tiredly rubbing the space between his eyebrows. “Couldn’t find out what that smell was. Might be an uncommon poison.”
“That’s the medical examiner’s job. Don’t worry about it,” He Yixun bent down to neatly arrange the shoes Xu Pei had kicked off.
“Will Shao Hui tamper with the autopsy report?” Xu Pei asked worriedly.
“No,” He Yixun loosened his tie and dealt with the flood of messages triggered by Wei Tai’s death. “The superior police department already knows about this. They’ve suspended him pending investigation.”
The other Progressive Society members might have escaped, but a homicide case was right there, and the victim was a prominent figure. No one could whitewash this.
Shao Hui had already surrendered his badge. For now, He Yixun was temporarily in charge of the Binshi Police Department’s affairs. Wei Tai’s case would definitely be thoroughly investigated.
It was just a missed opportunity to strike a blow against the Progressive Society.
“Are you still busy?” Hearing He Yixun’s phone vibrating incessantly, Xu Pei didn’t ask more and dragged his tired body towards the bathroom. “I’m going to take a shower first.”
His fingers, typing a reply, stopped abruptly. He Yixun looked up at Xu Pei. “Are you sure you’re okay?”
Weren’t you burning up back in the booth?
“It’s not very serious,” Xu Pei said, unbuttoning his shirt, pulling down the zipper, letting his trousers drop to the floor, then hooking them with his foot and tossing them onto the sofa. “I can handle it in the shower.”
This was Xu Pei’s usual way of undressing—carelessly throwing things around. He Yixun was long accustomed to cleaning up after him.
But today was different. He Yixun felt inexplicably irritated by those carelessly discarded pants.
To be precise, not the pants.
The black straps of the shirt garters pressed against his thighs, leaving faint marks on his cool, fair skin. The thin straps of the sock garters pulled up the edges of the dark socks, outlining his bony ankles. Those long, slender legs were restrained by symmetrically placed straps, exuding a kind of meticulous beauty of order. But the disheveled shirt hem and the glimpses of his underwear were constantly breaking that order, making it unbearable for the perfectionist, who only wanted to take control of this territory and establish a new order.
“Are you sure you don’t want my uniform?” He Yixun walked towards Xu Pei.
“If you’re offering, of course I don’t mind,” Xu Pei said, looking down to unfasten the shirt garters. The small clips fell off, making the order even more chaotic. “But I’m not washing it for you.”
“Forget it. I don’t want to wash it either,” He Yixun now stood right in front of Xu Pei.
Xu Pei stopped what he was doing and looked up at He Yixun, bewildered, not understanding why he had come so close.
“I’ll offer myself for you to use,” said He Yixun, bending down to scoop Xu Pei up by his buttocks, lifting him. “I’ll make an exception today and allow you on my bed.”
Xu Pei: ?
What does that mean? Doesn’t want to wash the uniform, wants to wash the sheets instead?
Xu Pei’s legs instinctively wrapped around He Yixun’s waist—not intentionally, but because of how he was being held, his legs had no other place to go. He asked He Yixun, stunned, “What are you doing?”
“Helping you,” said He Yixun.
“But my condition isn’t serious, hey!”
When he was tossed onto the bed, Xu Pei’s mind went completely blank. Even as He Yixun leaned over him, covering his lips with his own, he still hadn’t figured it out—
What is He Yixun doing?
What does the curious student want to figure out now?
The key point is, He Yixun has already pretty much touched every part of his body!
Could the secret of his reproductive organ have been exposed?
That shouldn’t be the case.
Professor Xu accepted the chaotic kiss, his mind entirely occupied with figuring out what was up with this male on top of him.
But clearly, now was not the time for thinking.
The juniper scent inexplicably thickened, making Xu Pei feel almost suffocated. The suppressed heat wave erupted like a volcano, with no transition in between. His dormant gland instantly became scalding hot.
Great, it was getting worse again.
“What are you doing, He Yixun?” Xu Pei pushed him away irritably, touched his nape, and found a small amount of secretion. “Do you want to change the mattress again?”
He Yixun didn’t answer. He turned Xu Pei over, looked at the swollen glands, and asked, “Do you want me to lick it?”
“Obviously?” Since the offer is there, why not take it? Anyway, he’d already been caught secretly sniffing the police uniform so there was no point in being prudish now. “This is a work-related injury. You’re responsible.”
He stripped off the annoying shirt completely, revealing the upper part of the succubus tattoo on his lower back. The lower part was still hidden by his underwear.
It seemed to have started with this tattoo.
Since then, He Yixun had been constantly irritated, especially today when he had the chance to round up the Progressive Society members but was thwarted by Shao Hui, which made him even more furious.
He gripped Xu Pei’s waist with both hands and bit down hard on the bright red butterfly, provoking a pained protest from Xu Pei. “Why are you abusing me again!”
“Am I?” He Yixun’s voice was low. He hooked his finger under the strap of the shirt garter, pulled it taut, and then let go. The elastic snapped back against Xu Pei’s thigh with a sharp “smack.”
The firm thigh flesh quivered twice. Xu Pei was momentarily stunned. This seems to go beyond ‘helping,’ doesn’t it?
Having experienced several informal heats with He Yixun, Xu Pei had long since come to view this unresponsive Officer He as an NPC.
All his actions could be explained by curiosity. So, while Xu Pei initially felt some shame about He Yixun exploring his body, he had come to accept it quite well.
—What’s there to be ashamed of with a robot?
It was precisely because of this that when He Yixun proactively offered to help tonight, Xu Pei didn’t find it abnormal at all.
But, playing with his shirt garters, what did that mean?
The prone position suddenly felt full of danger. Xu Pei hurriedly tried to turn over, but his leg inadvertently brushed against something hard and erect. In that instant, the steel-plated mecha crumbled apart, revealing the core within the cockpit.
It was a person. A person with emotions and desires.
“You… how come you…”
“I’m not impotent.”
Xu Pei had always known He Yixun wasn’t. He had just been willfully defining He Yixun by the standards of his own world, which was of course unfair.
But, he’s not.
And then?
Discovering that the other party wasn’t an NPC after all, Professor Xu suddenly became extremely awkward. He scrambled for something to say. “So you also, ahem, how do you usually, uh, take care of that?”
Conversation.
Conversation is the only way to ease the awkwardness.
Even though Xu Pei was already in a sorry state himself—the most infuriating part was that he had been fine originally, and it was He Yixun who made it worse—he still had to endure the discomfort in his glands and try to lighten the mood.
“I rarely feel the need to vent,” He Yixun looked at Xu Pei with the same seriousness he had when exploring Xu Pei’s body, reciprocating by sharing his own situation. “I handle it myself.”
“I see,” Xu Pei scrambled up while forcing a laugh and trying to roll off the bed. “Then I’ll leave the space to you. I’ll go to the bathroom.”
He Yixun grabbed Xu Pei’s ankle, even though he was already half-undressed, his socks still snugly covering part of his calves, and pulled him back underneath him. “Why?”
Xu Pei asked, bewildered, “Why what?”
“Why can’t we handle it together?”
From surprise to awkwardness to bewilderment, Professor Xu finally lost his composure.
Handle it together?!
Is that something an alpha can say to an omega?!
Even if you aren’t an alpha, you can’t just propose something like that so blatantly!
“How many times do I have to say it, we are different genders!” Xu Pei bristled. “Can you please keep some boundaries?”
“Who’s the one without boundaries?” He Yixun pressed closer, sliding four fingers under the strap of the shirt garter, his palm pressed tightly against Xu Pei’s thigh by the elastic’s tension. “Who clings to me and sniffs me every time they’re in heat? Who secretly uses my police uniform to deal with it? Who takes their pants off as soon as they get home?”
His four fingers kept climbing upward, the strap rubbing against the skin. No matter how tough Xu Pei’s words were, his sensitive body couldn’t muster any resistance.
“S-stop touching…” His momentum weakened. Xu Pei swallowed the copious saliva and said, spinelessly, “Doing it together… isn’t entirely off the table…
“But only with hands!”
He Yixun made an affirmative sound, but his lips came closer, his tongue probing into the moist space between Xu Pei’s lips.
He seems more skilled than before.
Alright, kissing is within the allowed range, Xu Pei thought.
…….
“Should we get a physical check-up first?” He Yixun asked.
“Of course!” Xu Pei exclaimed. “Does your side not do that?”
He Yixun had never concerned himself with such things.
But Xu Pei said “your side.”
He suddenly remembered that Xu Pei didn’t belong to his world.
“You said you used blockers before,” He Yixun asked. “You haven’t had sex either, have you?”
“No,” Xu Pei said uncomfortably.
Being a 30-year-old virgin wasn’t exactly something to be proud of. Luckily, He Yixun was one too, which made him feel less embarrassed.
“So you were waiting for your alpha,” He Yixun concluded.
“It’s yes and no…” It was complicated, and Xu Pei didn’t think it necessary to explain in detail.
But He Yixun seemed to only hear the “yes.”
“I understand,” He Yixun’s tone cooled considerably. “I won’t go inside. Let’s make this quick.”

I really hate Shao Hui and the rest of the Progressive Society members, knowing full well this thing also happens in real life. The hate and hotness in one chapter just strikes a certain chord in me.
